The 'Anti-Epal' Bill

Epal_Posters

Products with billboard and poster advertisements often comes with a famous actor or actress with it to make it more appealing to the public. That kind of advertisement works, right? How about a billboard or a poster with a face of a politician stating "Project of", "In Cooperation with" or something along that line? Politicians putting up these posters as if they are advertising what they are doing just doesn't feel right. They are elected politicians, that's their job. This triggers the 'Anti-Epal' Bill.

The word 'epal' is a slang for a person who always wants to butt in in order for others to recognize him/her . This bill has been passed on to penalize the politicians from grabbing credit for the projects that was funded by the government. This bill was originally authored by the late Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago and has been refiled many times during 2004, 2007 and also 2010. The bill prohibits the public official's face or name in any public works project.

This bill has now been revived by Senator Manny Pacquiao this year 2017. Though the bill still needs to have concrete details with it, this will be a good change once it is passed as a law. Will the 'Anti-Epal' bill be finally passed as a law? I sincerely hope so.
